Why an Archive? |

A cultural exchange can be warm and memorable, yet disappear when the meeting ends. An archive creates public memory. It asks where a story came from, who carried it, which version is being shared, what language shaped it, what permission was granted, and what context a new reader needs. It allows an entry to be searched, translated, compared, corrected, revisited, or responsibly removed.

The archive rejects the idea that culture is a collection of colorful objects. A folktale is connected to the fears, hopes, work, landscape, and moral choices of the people who tell it. A mural is connected to its wall, neighborhood, historical moment, artist, and community conversation. An oral history is not merely an audio file; it is a person entrusting memory to a listener.
